Installation
Preparing your home
In order to properly prepare for the installation of your new flooring, please review the following.
Day of Installation: The homeowner, or a responsible person, should be on the job site to let the installers in, and discuss any special needs/request pertaining to the installation (pets, custom design/decorative placements, radiant heat, etc.). If this is not possible, other arrangements can be made when the installation is scheduled.
Furnishings: Before the installers arrive, be sure to remove all items from closet floors and under beds. Remove all bed coverings, fragile items, lamps, knick-knacks, glassware, books and all items from the top of your furniture. All computers, stereos, televisions, or other electronic equipment must be disconnected.
Furniture: All furniture should be removed from rooms prior to installation; additional charges apply for our installers moving furniture.
Appliances: Disconnecting and reconnecting any water supply lines or gas appliances should be done by a certified plumber or contractor. Additional charges apply for our installers moving appliances.
Power & Water: Make sure to have adequate power, lighting and water available 24 hours prior to installation. Heat is mandatory during cold weather.
Removal of Old Flooring: Be sure to discuss removal and disposal of old flooring with your sales associate. Circumstances will vary based on individual installation requirements. This is an additional cost homeowners can save by doing themselves.
Moldings: Baseboard moldings can be left in place for most installations, although some flooring types require base to be installed after the floor. Work closely with your sales associate to be sure you prepare properly for the type of floor you are having installed. Additional costs are incurred for baseboard removal and replacement. Transition pieces between flooring types will be included in your estimate and installed with your new flooring.
Door Cutting: We will trim interior doors to accommodate for changes in your new floor height. This will be included in your original estimate for an added cost.
Painting: We recommend that all painting be completed before your new flooring is installed. Keep some leftover paint for touch-ups, as normal installation methods may scuff or scratch walls.
Clean Up: Installers will pick up and dispose of scrap materials- inform us ahead of time if you prefer to keep scrap material. Certain floor types such as ceramic tile or hardwood may require additional cleanings by the homeowner.
Billing: We require 50% deposit when we order your flooring material, the balance will be due when the installation is completed. We will mail an invoice that is due upon receipt; do not leave payment with installers.
Follow Up: You will receive a follow up call from your sales associate to be sure you are satisfied with your flooring choice and the installation. Be sure to ask any questions and address any concerns you may have at this time. We appreciate your feedback.
Vinyl Installation Specifics:
- vinyl floors are glued down to the sub-floor, which must be very smooth (concrete or wood)
- each type of vinyl requires a specific adhesive
- your sales associate will recommend the preferred method for your installation, determined by the existing conditions of the area and flooring selected
- baseboard is best installed after vinyl flooring
- keep traffic light during first 24 hours after installation so adhesive can dry properly
- avoid stepping on any seams during first 24 hours
- avoid scrubbing or washing the floor for at least 3 days after installation. Spot clean the floor, avoiding seams.
- any adhesive residue can be removed with a white cloth dampened with mineral spirits
- vinyl is approved for use over radiant heat systems- be sure heat is off during install for glues to set properly.
