Laminate

FAQ's

Is laminate good for kitchens & bathrooms?
Many of today’s laminates have improved water resistance and are suitable for kitchen’s and power rooms. Be sure to seal any areas of potential water spillage (dishwasher, exterior doors, sinks) with flexible silicone caulk. We do not recommend installing laminate in bathrooms with showers and tubs, due to the frequency and amount of water exposure.

How do I clean my laminate?
Never mop a laminate floor or use detergents on it. Excess moisture can cause laminate to swell and de-laminate. Use only the recommended cleaner with a dry mop system.

Can a laminate floor be re-finished.
There is no way to re-finish a laminate floor. If it’s finish wears off, the floor will need to be replaced. Using entry mats and frequent sweeping to keep sand and grit off the floor will help prevent premature wear.

How do I fix a chip in my laminate floor?
Some munufacturers make a filler putty you can use to fill in small chips. Large chips or damaged planks should be replaced.

I heard laminate has a fake or hollow sound. Is this true and is there anything I can do to improve the sound quality?
You may be surprised to hear that laminate flooring is not significantly noisier than other hard flooring surfaces. The thickness of the laminate flooring and the choice of underlayment will have the greatest effect in reducing noise from pedestrian foot traffic = walking noise. We recommend purchasing an acoustical underlayment. Using area rugs, runners and drapes in your decor can also help reduce noise.
