Hardwood
FAQ's
Can engineered floors be sanded and re-finished?
Most engineered floors can be screened- abrading and re-applying finish without going down to actual wood fibers. Solid sawn engineered floors can be sanded- sanding off the finish and removing top layer of wood fibers- up to 2 times.
Why does my hardwood floor get
big gaps between boards in winter?
Most homes dry out in the winter with increased heat use- this causes wood floors to lose moisture and shrink- resulting in gaps. Narrower boards move less, wider boards move more- choosing a narrower width for dry homes is advised. Wood performs best at the same humididty and temperature as we do! Maintain a relative Humidity of 40%-50% and Temperature of 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit in your home to minimize wood movement.
Are wood floors expensive?
Hardwood floors are very competitively price and represent an excellent value when compared to other flooring options. Hardwood floors never have to be replaced and will enhance or even increase the value of your home should you decide to sell. When compared to other flooring products, hardwood floors provide long-lasting value.
What about installing wood in
high traffic areas like kitchens?
The urethane finishes on most new wood floors can stand up to heavier traffic. When installing wood flooring into bathrooms, kitchens, and other higher-stress areas be sure to use walk-off mats or small rugs to catch dirt and grime. Wipe up spills immediately, protect from excess exposure to water, and be sure to sweep or vacuum regularly to keep dirt or stones from tracking across floor.
Are wood floors hard to maintain?
Can I damp-mop my floor?
No. A hardwood floor finished at the factory features multiple layers of UV-cured polyurethane. This finish gives the floor a tough, durable and smooth no-wax surface that is both luxurious and easy-care. See Care & Maintenance for your wood floor. DO NOT damp mop - Water and wood do not mix. Therefore, we suggest that you use the maintenance products and procedures recommended by the manufacturer of your floor.
Will my wood floor change color over the years?
Yes, wood is a natural product that will change color with sun exposure and aging. Some manufacturers include a sun-shield in their finishes to slow this process down. Rotating furniture and area rugs periodically, and using curtains or blinds to shield UV rays can also help.
